Earth Day 2014
Sanjeevani, the environment club of DAV Dwarka celebrated Earth Day by holding a week long Earth Day
celebrations. The week witnessed a plethora of activities revolving around preservation of our mother earth.
Students from classes Pre-Primary to X were involved in an array of activities. A’Tree of Hope’ made with
waste paper was made by the students on which Principal Ms. Monika Mehan put the first leaf with a message to conserve nature. It was then followed by other students of the school wherein they also put the leaves on the ‘Tree of Hope’ and pledged their commitment in raising the level of awareness to spread greenery and protect the planet. A colouring competition on Earth Day was held for primary classes.
A bicycle rally was organised for students of classes VI to VIII, wherein students moved on bicycles carrying placards and slogans to spread the message to the society about the need of safeguarding the earth by reducing pollution and use of non-renewable sources of energy. As a prelude to the rally, a placard and slogan making competition on ‘SAVE EARTH’ was held for classes VI to VIII.
A workshop and presentation on organic farming was organised for students of classes IX and X in association with NAVDANYA, an NGO that promotes organic farming. A kitchen garden was also set up in the school area where students themselves mulched the soil and sowed the seeds of variety of vegetables like tomato, brinjal, gourd pumpkin and cucumber etc. The students of environment club were also taken to an educational trip to organic farms in Mehpa, a village in Meerut, UP. Students also gained knowledge about effects of using genetically modified fertilisers and chemicals. They relished fresh and healthy fruits and vegetables of the organic farms.
